The mocha background and grey-green veining of this sedimentary stone cast an organic pattern across a field of pavers or honed counter-top, hence the name Tortoise as in tortoise shell. In contrast, an elegant leathery surface can be achieved with a Thermal finish, physically rendering the subtle peaks and valleys of the natural veining. A more rugged but equally provocative use is as an exterior cladding featuring our Antique Corduroy finish. A unique characteristic of this stone is the prevalence of Belemnite fossils which occur in whole or as fragments throughout the material and can be diminished with hand finishes or highlighted with the Honed or more refined finishes.
