Warren G. Magnuson Park
YMSW helped an artist bring her conception to life in a newly renovated public park along Lake Washington in Seattle.
The artistic inspiration—developing a surveyor’s sightline across the expanse of the park—required a series of natural-looking posts ranging in height. The artist sought a material that would endure over time and develop its own patina with age.
YMSW’s dramatic Ink Jade Limestone filled the bill nicely—natural, durable, affordable, and an ideal surface for hand-chiseling. YMSW helped the artist develop shop drawings that were specific enough for production while still allowing the Chinese stone carvers latitude to make their mark.
Through the project’s many phases—from identifying stone and selecting finishes to developing prototypes and installing the chiseled posts onsite—the artist worked with YMSW to create the sculpture series. You won’t get that level of collaboration from just a stone supplier.
